The vineyards that produce the grapes for Montes Wings are located on the Finca de Apalta estate in the Colchagua Valley. One of the unique features of this Carmenère vineyard is its location on a steep hillside, 656 feet above the valley floor vineyards. The soil is granitic with a high clay content and is well drained, with a south-westerly orientation allowing for better temperature control during the warm summer months. The soils of Apalta are very heterogeneous: some are strongly influenced by the nearby Tingiririka River, others are more derived from colluvial deposits of eroded material high in the mountains surrounding the valley. Soils tend to be deeper at valley bottoms and thinner at the foot of mountains and higher.
